CALL TO WORSHIP:
God sent Jesus to enter our world and to be our Light. God sent Jesus to be part of our humanity, to be one with us. Today is Palm Sunday, when glad people greeted Jesus with praise and spread branches in His pathway. And now He comes again, to enter our lives by faith, so that we too may shout Hosanna and welcome Him as our King.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
O God, your Son entered Jerusalem to die for our sins. We confess that we have not always hailed Him as King, or gone into the world before Him carrying our praises. Most of the time, we are silent. Our faith seems to fade out and our enthusiasm wanes. We parade our hopes, but seldom really pursue them.
Have mercy on us and forgive us. Grant us such trust in your powers, that in every city we may live for your truth and speak of your love for all people. In the name of Jesus Christ we ask these things, Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
Jesus enters the city and He enters our lives. He comes in triumph and omnipotence. He comes as Ruler and He comes as King. But His rule is one of love and His judgment is one of mercy. His power is expressed to us in acceptance and reconciliation. We are loved and we are forgiven.
A FINAL SCRIPTURE TO TAKE WITH YOU THIS WEEK:
“Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of Glory may come in.
Who is this King of Glory?
The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory.”
( Psalm 24:9-10.)
OUR CONCLUDING BENEDICTION:
May God continue to be with us and with those we love through this difficult time. May we all remember that although scattered, we are still the Church of Jesus Christ. Together or apart, we are His people, here and everywhere, now and forever.
