OUR CALL TO WORSHIP:
With all that is within us, let us bless our God. For it is the Lord who forgives us and brings us to wholeness. It is the Lord who lifts us up and covers us with steadfast love and mercy. We have one God, one Faith, and one Spirit who unites us all. Let us give praise and thanks on this day and on all days!
OUR PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Almighty God, we gather together, believing in your love for us all, but also believing we need the power of the Holy Spirit to bring changes to our lives. At that first Pentecost, you sent the promised power of your Spirit to fill disciples with willing faith. We admit that we have held back the force of that Spirit among us; that we have been slow to serve you; that we have been reluctant to live the Good News of your love. Have mercy on us. Forgive us for the things that divide us, and by your Spirit, draw us back together. Fill us with the desire to do your will and to be your people. In the name of Jesus Christ we ask these things, Amen.
OUR ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the One who creates and renews the Church as the Community in which people are reconciled to God and to each other. Being forgiven, we are reconciled. Being reconciled, we are now ready to enter the joy of true renewal on this very special Day of Pentecost.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION OF FAITH:
“God’s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of the human mind. Human thought ascribes to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. But God reveals divine love in Jesus Christ by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful men and women. The power of God’s love in Christ to transform the world discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator.”
(From our Confession of 1967, section 9.15)
A BENEDICTION TO TAKE WITH YOU THIS WEEK:
Finally, my friends, let us rejoice and comfort one another and agree with one another. Let us live in peace and the God of love and peace will be with you. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
(From II Corinthians 13:11 and 13:14)
